Three first-half goals have helped Academica to a 3-1 win over Beira-Mar in the Liga Sagres on Friday.
Despite being shaded for possession, Academica hit the lead through a 15th-minute strike from Marinho.
Two goals in two minutes from Edinho (35th minute) and Cleyton (37th) effectively put the game out of Beira-Mar’s reach as they could not convert their possession on the scoreboard.
Beira-Mar managed to get a consolation goal with six minutes to go as Ruben converted a penalty but the 14th placed side now remain only above the relegation positions on goal difference.
The win for Pedro Emanuel’s side took them to seventh place on 19 points, under threat from three sides below them on 18 points with a full round of matches to come.
Next weekend, Academica face an away trip to Olhanense while Beira-Mar will host third-placed Sporting Braga.
