Benfica moved provisionally clear on top of the Liga Sagres after a 2-1 away win against third-placed Sporting Braga on Saturday.

Eduardo Salvio got the visitors off to a great start with a goal after five minutes before Brazilian striker Lima doubled the advantage in the 35th minute.

Braga pulled a goal back through Joao Pedro in the 77th minute but their task was made even harder by the sending off of German defender Maximilian Haas with five minutes remaining.

The victory kept Benfica’s unbeaten start to the season going as they recorded their 13th win from 16 matches while Braga stay in third, four points clear of fourth-placed Pacos de Ferreira.

Both sides will be confident of victories next week as Benfica host second-last Vitoria Setubal and Braga travel to 14th-placed Beira-M

Benfica are three points clear of second-placed Porto, who could return to top spot on goal difference if they beat Gil Vicente on Monday by two or more goals.
