Sporting Lisbon’s inconsistent Liga Sagres season continued as they drew 2-2 away to promoted club Moreirense on Monday.
Hosts Moreirense, who finished second in the Liga de Honra last term, looked capable of staging a major upset when they took a 2-0 lead in the match at Parque de Jogos Comendador Joaquim de Almeida Freitas.
Pablo Oliveira opened the scoring in the 40th minute, with Nabil Ghilas doubling the home side’s lead on the stroke of half-time.
Sporting, seeking to avoid what would have been their third defeat in six league matches, pulled one back through Xandao in the 64th minute.
And they did not have long to wait before getting back on level terms, Eric Dier netting a minute later to make it 2-2.
The heavyweight visitors could not force a winning goal in the time remaining, and have now won just once in their last six Liga Sagres outings.
They sit eighth on the table, 15 points behind top-two sides Porto and Benfica.
Moreirense, meanwhile, remain inside the relegation zone, two points off the safety of 14th place.
