A hat-trick by Ricky van Wolfswinkel steered Sporting CP to a surprise 3-2 away win at Sporting Braga on Monday.

The Dutch striker completed his hat-trick in injury time to steer Sporting to eighth on the table while Braga remain fourth on 43 points with their first defeat in five matches.

Van Wolfswinkel, who is heading to Norwich City in July, struck in the ninth, 29th and 90th minutes taking his goalscoring tally for the season to eight.

But the visitors did not have it all their own way in this crucial Liga Sagres clash with Braga twice forcing first-half equalisers.

Nigerian defender Elderson Echiejile levelled the scores in the 25th minute while Brazil striker Carlao also equalised 11 minutes later.

Sporting played the final 20 minutes with 10 men after defender Joaozinho was sent off for a second bookable offence.

Athletic Club moved to 13th on the table with a 1-0 home win over Granada.

Veteran striker Aritz Aduriz scored the game’s only goal, his 12th of the season, in the 67th minute but Athletic had to play the last 10 minutes with 10 men after midfielder Markel Susaeta was sent off for a second bookable offence.
