FC Porto moved back to the top of the Liga Sagres table after they thrillingly overcame Sporting Braga 2-0 at the Estadio AXA on Sunday.
Vitor Pereira’s men went into the game needing a victory after Benfica’s win over Olhanense on Saturday saw them move to first on the ladder and the defending champions left it late before escaping with a win.
The match looked to be heading towards a scoreless draw before mercurial Colombian pair James Rodriquez and Jackson Martinez both scored in stoppage time to steal victory for their side.
Elsewhere, Rio Ave recorded an extraordinary 5-3 away win over Vitoria Setubal.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side raced to a 4-0 lead thanks to two goals each to Joao Tomas and Yonathan Del Valle before Albert Meyong gave the home side a glimmer of hope with a goal on the stroke of half-time.
Meyong scored again in the 64th minute to set up a nervy finish but Tomas completed his hat-trick on 79 minutes to put Rio Ave 5-2 ahead.
Meyong then converted an 86th minute penalty to ensure he finished the game with a hat-trick of his own but his heroics were not enough to save Setubal from their third defeat of the year.
Nacional bounced back from their 3-0 loss to Porto last week with a 1-0 win over Estoril.
Angolan striker Mateus got the game’s only goal in the 57th minute to ensure Nacional jumped to ninth on the table after starting the weekend in fourteenth place.
In the day’s other game, Academica and Gil Vicente played out a 2-2 draw at the Estadio EFAPEL.
