Lorient ended an eight-game winless streak in all competitions with a 2-0 victory over Lille in Ligue 1 action on Friday.

Christian Gourcuff’s side were seeking their first win since beating Rennes 2-1 in mid-September and they got it thanks to goals from Gregory Bourillon and Benjamin Corgnet.

Lille, who had won three successive league games heading into the match, knew victory would move them level with Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille at the top of the table.

But the visitors found themselves behind after Bourillon headed home a Yann Jouffre free-kick on 22 minutes.

That goal sparked Lille into life and they went close to drawing level after the break, but Dimitri Payet failed to take full advantage of his 55th-minute opportunity.

Lille were made to pay for wasting a gilt-edged chance in the 70th minute when former Arsenal striker Jeremie Aliadiere played in Corgnet for the hosts’ second goal.

The result moves Lorient into 10th position, two points adrift of Lille, who sit seventh.
