Nice continue to mount an expected challenge for Champions League qualification following a 2-0 win over struggling Reims in Ligue 1.

Valentin Eysseric opened the scoring for hosts Nice from the penalty spot in the 11th minute of the match at the Stade Municipal du Ray on Friday.

The visitors battled hard to keep the score at 1-0 for much of the contest, but Renato Civelli made sure of all three points when he claimed Nice’s second goal with five minutes remaining, Eric Bautheac providing the assist.

The win sees Nice close to within a point of third-placed Marseille, who tackle league leaders PSG on Sunday.

Reims meanwhile are in trouble at the wrong end of the table – they are just one point outside the bottom three and have managed just one win in 18 league matches.
