Ligue 1 preview: Marseille keen to break Bordeaux drought

SoccerNews in Ligue 1 15 Nov 2012

Marseille are determined to end a winless run at Bordeaux, while Paris Saint-Germain will be missing Zlatan Ibrahimovic in Ligue 1.

Second-placed Marseille visit Bordeaux in the pick of the French top flight action on Sunday, while leaders PSG play host to Rennes on Saturday.

Marseille, who are equal on 23 points with PSG with one game in hand, have not defeated Bordeaux away from home since 1977.

“We believe we’re going to put an end to that run,” forward Andre Ayew told the Marseille website.

“Every record is there to be broken, and we’re going to try and do that. We’re going to try and earn ourselves a place in the history books by winning there.”

Bordeaux, in sixth place, could leapfrog Marseille on the table with a third straight victory, having already accounted for Lorient and Toulouse.

PSG will be without star striker Ibrahimovic as well as defenders Mamadou Sakho and Gregory Van der Wiel for their clash with ninth-placed Rennes.

Ibrahimovic is serving the second and final match of his ban, while Sakho, sent off at Montpellier last weekend, and Van der Wiel are also suspended.

Elsewhere, champions Montpellier – languishing in 14th place – travel to Valenciennes, who climbed to fifth on the back of wins against Bastia and Sochaux.

Lille journey to face Lorient on Friday, while Ajaccio take on Sochaux at home on Saturday.

Troyes entertain fellow cellar-dwellers Nancy, also on Saturday, while Evian TG play host to Saint-Etienne and Bastia visit Brest.

Lyon face Reims at home on Sunday, which is followed by Nice’s fixture with Toulouse.
