Thanks to a stunning 16-minute period in the first half, Saint-Etienne thumped Ligue 1 strugglers Nancy 4-0 on Friday.

Nancy headed into the game on the back of six consecutive losses and they made a sloppy start when Jonathan Brison set up Saint-Etienne’s Brazilian forward Brandao for the opening goal after nine minutes.

Romain Hamouma doubled the lead on 19 minutes before Brandao’s second, scored just two minutes later, put them in complete control.

An absolute rout was on the cards when Gabon attacker Pierre Aubameyang got his team’s fourth goal after just 25 minutes.

Nancy coach Jean Fernandez made changes to give his side more defensive stability and although they had Nigerian Simon Zenke sent off with 22 minutes to play, they avoided further damage.

Saint-Etienne jumped four spots to seventh as a result of their victory while Nancy remain second-bottom on the table.
