Reigning Ligue 1 champions Lille defeated Olympique Marseille in a 3-2 thriller while PSG left it late in their 3-1 win over Toulouse on Sunday.

Lille’s clash with Marseille was highly anticipated, despite the fact that both sides had made poor starts to the season.

Senegalese striker Moussa Sow – who was one of the cornerstones of last season’s success with 25 goals in 36 league appearances – opened the scoring after 15 minutes, much to the delight of the home crowd.

But Frenchman Mathieu Valbuena bagged the equaliser on 57 minutes and then five minutes later, put the visitors in front.

Lille needed inspiration from somewhere and they got it from an unlikely source in Cameroon defender Aurelien Chedjou.

Chedjou – who has scored just three league goals in the last three seasons – struck a 67th minute leveller before Sow netted the winner from the penalty spot with 15 minutes to play.

In Toulouse, the majority of the 31,000 fans went home disappointed as PSG snatched a 3-1 win.

Both sides entered the match with six points from three games, but it was Toulouse who looked like extending that when they led 1-0 at half-time thanks to Etienne Capoue’s goal.

Javier Pastore, who joined PSG for 37 million pounds from Palermo in the off-season, dictated the second half, setting up Kevin Gameiro’s 56th minute equaliser before laying on the assist for substitute Mevlut Erdinc’s stoppage time strike.

That put PSG 2-1 ahead, with Erdinc turning provider for Jeremy Menez to seal the result just moments later.

In other matches, a Ryad Boudebouz double gave Sochaux a 2-1 win over 10-man Saint-Etienne while first-half goals to Razak Boukari, Jires Kembo-Ekoko and Kader Mangane saw Stade Rennes hold off a fast-finishing Caen 3-2.
