Ligue 1 wrap: Marseille grab late winner

Marseille came from behind to beat Stade Rennes 2-1 in Ligue 1 on Sunday, while Ajaccio beat Valenciennes by a similar scoreline.

Didier Deschamps’ side travelled to Rennes unbeaten in their last six league encounters but they faced a side also in good form.

And it was Rennes who took the lead through Tongo Doumbia after 15 minutes, with the midfielder picking an ideal time to score his first top-flight goal in France.

Disaster struck on the stroke of half-time though, as Nigerian defender Onyekachi Apam scored an own goal to level proceedings.

Buoyed by their equaliser, Marseille came out firing in the second half and they got their winner when Benoit Cheyrou found the back of the net with just 13 minutes to play.

In a win that showed the closeness of the Ligue 1 table, Ajaccio jumped from last to 15th with their 2-1 victory.

Eduardo gave them the lead as early as the sixth minute but they were pegged back when Cameroon striker Vincent Aboubakar equalised just after half-time.

Substitute Christian Kinkela made sure Ajaccio got all three points though, with the Democratic Republic of Congo international scoring in the second minute of stoppage time.

The other match on Sunday saw Evian TG and Bordeaux play out a goalless draw, with Ivorian Yannick Sagbo missing a second-half penalty for the former.
