Ligue 1 relegation battlers Nancy put in a brilliant performance to stun Marseille 1-0 at the Stade Velodrome on Sunday.
In a game where nothing went right for the hosts, Joey Barton picked up the first red card of his Marseille career just after the hour mark, before Andre Ayew turned the ball into his own net in the 75th minute to gift Nancy the win.
The result sees Marseille stay third, six points behind league leaders Paris Saint-Germain, while Nancy move off the foot of the table to go within four points of safety.
Meanwhile, Olympique Lyon failed to draw level on points with PSG after they lost 3-1 away to Ajaccio.
In what was an action packed second half, Lyon went ahead through an Alexandre Lacazette goal before the hosts pegged them back thanks to goals from Chakhir Belghazouani and Adrian Mutu.
Bafetimbi Gomis then missed a penalty for Lyon and he was made to pay in stoppage time when Mutu scored with a penalty of his own to seal victory for Ajaccio.
In the day’s other game, defending champions Montpellier overcame a shaky first-half performance to beat Reims 3-1 at Stade de la Mosson.
