Lingard hoping for Blues stay

Jesse Lingard is keen to extend his loan spell with Birmingham City to the end of this season, Sky Sports understands.

The 20 year old secured a one-month deal with Lee Clark’s side ahead of their match with Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, and wound up scoring all four goals in an impressive victory for the Blues – their first in the league in six games.

The haul, which included a fourteen minute hat-trick in the first half, came in the England U21 international’s first competitive start of his career.

He made five appearances for Leicester City in a brief spell in the East Midlands last season, and is yet to take to the field for the current Premier League champions, despite impressing in preseason.

Birmingham assistant manager Terry McDermott heaped praise on the midfielder following his debut, before expressing the clubs desire to extend his stay at the Midlands club.
