Liverpool and Man Utd battle for Spanish winger

According to reports in England and Spain, Manchester United and Liverpool have joined Barcelona in the pursuit for Valencia wing wizard David Silva. Barcelona were reportedly close to a deal for Silva, but now the English giants have leaped ahead in the race.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is looking to add to his attacking options, according to Setanta Sports. David Silva could be a cunning addition, according to the report, as he can play either on the left wing or behind a striker.

Liverpool have been spectators in the Silva race since the beginning of the summer, but now Liverpool’s American owners want to buy the Spaniard as compensation for their failure to fund the Gareth Barry deal, according to News of the World.

Both reports suggest that Silva could be bought for about £19 million as Valencia are feeling the financial effects of a disastrous season.

Why is it that this report suggests that the Yanks couldn’t afford the 18m for Barry but can now somehow afford 19m for Silva? Believe me I would love it if Liverpool had Silva in their squad for 08/09 (in preference to Barry) but I just can’t see it happening.

Yes Rafa 4get barry, Please Buy DAVID SILVA

  3. nelly says:

the reason why they want to buy silva rather than barry is that they feel if barry doesnt perform or when his contract runs out, he will be to old to sell on an recoup any money. i agree with them cos if u get silva an he doesnt perform. u will always get someone willin to take a chance on him. or if silva signs for 4 yrs, then when his contract runs out he can renew it an still be at the club for another 4 yrs. so from a business standpoint an a fan. i would rather go with silva, it just makes more sense

barry is junior gerrard,so its best you look for someone with ball control and speed.with the help of benayoun, gerrard and silva, torres will surly score 50 goals this season.
