Liverpool appointed the former manager of Greek side Olympiakos Jose Segura as academy technical manager on Saturday.
Segura will take up his new role on June 1 and report to academy director Frank McParland.
The 48-year-old worked in Barcelona’s youth system and with Barca B team before moving to Greece with AEK Athens and then Olympiakos – where he won the Greek league and cup double last year.
“There’s a lot to do at the academy but we’ve worked hard to bring in the best people and Jose is a great appointment,” said Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez.
“He’s worked with some of the top young talent in Spain and knows the challenges faced in bringing through players to the first-team set-up.
“He’s also got experience at the top after his success with Olympiakos and I’m delighted that he’s agreed to join us.”
