Liverpool closing on Yerri Mina loan deal

Barcelona defender Yerri Mina is set to move to the Champions League semifinalists Liverpool on loan next season, according to reports in Spain.

The Spanish TV programme El Chiringuito claim Reds have reached a deal with the Catalans to take the 23-year-old Colombia international on a season-long loan deal with Jurgen Klopp said to be keen to further bolster his options in defence.

Yerri Mina joined Barcelona from Palmeiras during the January transfer window but struggled to claim a starting place under Ernesto Valverde, making only five La Liga appearances in Barcelona’s title winning campaign.

Sevilla, Valencia and Villarreal are all also keen on Mina but Liverpool are said to be in pole position for the Colombian.

Liverpool signed Virgil van Dijk during winter and want to add more depth to their backline in order to mount a more serious domestic challenge next year.
