Liverpool eye Van Dijk-Sakho part exchange

Liverpool may look to use a player as a makeweight in a potential deal to sign Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk.

The Merseyside club are winning race to sign the much coveted centre-back who is set to become the world’s most expensive defender this summer.

That currently stands at the £50m it took for Chelsea to re-sign David Luiz this summer, with Van Dijk likely to command a futher £10m.

However, as Southampton were interested in signing Mamadou Sakho in January, Liverpool are considering tabling an offer that could see the Frenchman heading to St. Mary’s Stadium in a part-exchange deal.

The Reds aren’t wasting any time in assembling a squad ready for a return to the Champions League, with a deal for former Chelsea winger Mohammed Salah expected to be concluded in the coming days.

Jurgen Klopp’s side are currently priced at 10/11 to again finish in the top four next season.
