Liverpool boss Rafa Benitez is said to be lining up a shock move for Bristol City defender Liam Fontaine according to the Daily Mail.
The 22-year-old centre back was in the Bristol squad which was beaten in the Championship Play-off Final by Hull City last weekend. And it seems that the ex-Fulham trainee’s hopes of playing in the Premiership may not yet be over.
Fontaine is unlikely to turn down the offer of Premier League and Champions League football for another season in the Championship, and City manager Gary Johnson could struggle to hold on to the defender with a number of clubs looking at the player.
Fontaine is versatile – he can play at left back and in midfield – and will be seen as a perfect addition to the squad in order for Benitez to have depth in his choice for next year’s campaign.
