According to several reports, Liverpool is closely monitoring Eljero Elia’s impressive performances. The winger from Hamburger SV has quickly developed himself to a key player for the Bundesliga side and it’s reported that Rafa Benitez made him one of his primary targets.
The Dutch international joined HSV from Eredivisie outfit Twente last summer for a reputed fee of €9 million. His impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed in the rest of Europe. Apparently, Liverpool have sent scouts to Hamburg’s latest Bundesliga games in order to have a look at the left winger.
Elia, whose current HSV deal is due to expire in the summer of 2014, has to add some depth and creativity to Liverpool’s attack. Interesting part in this case is Ryan Babel’s role. The Liverpool winger is one of Elia’s main rivals at the Dutch national team. Reportedly, the Premier League side opts to involve Babel in the deal in order to lower HSV’s demands.
