Liverpool move ever closer to Hughes deal

Liverpool are closing in on the signing of Derby County’s Will Hughes, the Express understands.

The Reds have been tracking the midfielder for some time, and are set to make a move when the transfer window reopens in January.

Both Manchester United and Arsenal have also been linked with the England U21 international, though Brendan Rodgers’ side are in pole position after agreeing to meet the Rams’ £12m valuation.

Hughes made his first team debut in a 3-2 defeat to Peterborough United two years ago, and has since gone on to make fifty-nine appearances for the East Midlands side.

He has hit three Championship goals this season, helping Steve McClaren’s side to ninth place in the division with fifteen games played.

The Surrey-born playmaker is set to win his sixth cap for the Under 21’s tomorrow evening as Gareth Southgate’s men take on lowly San Marino, and is priced at 8/5 to score at any time during the game.
