Liverpool and Napoli are locked in the battle for Barcelona midfielder Javier Mascherano, Catalan daily Sport has revealed.
Previewing the crucial league clash against Atletico Madrid, the Argentine hinted that the clash at Camp Nout could be his last ever game for Barcelona, which added fuel to speculations linking him with a summer exit.
According to Sport, the likes of Liverpool and Napoli are ready to reignite their interest in the highly rated footballer.
The Reds will attempt to lure Mascherano back to Anfield, where he has enjoyed three and a half very successful years under Rafael Benitez.
And it is the Spanish coach who will rival Liverpool for the player’s signature as he is hoping to add him to the ranks at Napoli.
With the Azzurri reportedly ready to offer around €15 million for Mascherano, the Premier League runners up will have to make a massive effort if they want to win the race for the 29-year-old.
