Liverpool ready to step-up interest in Huntelaar

ESPN are reporting that Liverpool are ready to step-up their interest in long-term target Klaus-Jan Huntelaar in the January transfer window to end their problems going forward.

At the moment, the Reds only have Luis Suarez as a recognised striker to call upon, which is a big concern for Brendan Rodgers.

The Liverpool boss has hinted that he is ready to spend money in the New Year and now it is believed that the Schalke star may become his main target in the window.

It is even being suggested that the English Premier League side are hopeful of landing the Dutch international for as little as £6 million, which many would see as a bargain for the Merseyside club.

Huntelaar has been in superb form this season as well, notching eight goals for the Bundesliga outfit, who will do all they can to keep hold of one of their most prized assets.

The 29-year-old would offer something else to Liverpool, who have struggled to score goals so far this campaign and seem to be relying on Suarez finding the net too much.

With the chance of Huntelaar going on the cheap though, Rodgers may have a fight on his hands to land the striker.
