Liverpool to make huge statement with Van Dijk, Salah signings

Liverpool to make huge statement with Van Dijk, Salah signings

Liverpool on verge of signing two top players

Liverpool are sitting on the verge of adding two top-class names to their squad this season.

Southampton defender Virgil Van Dijk and AS Roma winger Mohamed Salah both look set to move to Anfield this summer in what could be an extremely successful double piece of business from the Reds.

Van Dijk to Become Sixth Southampton Player to Join LFC

Liverpool have established themselves as Southampton’s main source of income over the course of last three years.

Sadio Mane became the fifth Southampton player to join Anfield-based club last year after Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Dejan Lovren and Nathaniel Clyne. Having invested a significant amount of money – close to £122 million – in five Saints, Liverpool are ready to splash out again.

The Reds look certain to win the highly-contested race for in-form defender Virgil Van Dijk, who seems to have told Jurgen Klopp Reds are his preferred choice. The Holland international could command a transfer fee worth £50 or £60 million, which would take the total tally spent on Southampton players to approximately £180 million.

The 25-year-old Dutch defender has emerged as one of the highest-rated centre-backs in the Premier League this season. Van Dijk’s performances for the Saints caught the eye of a number of clubs – Chelsea and Manchester City – and Liverpool would definitely send a strong message should they manage to secure his signature this summer.

Mohamed Salah, at last

AS Roma star Mohamed Salah should have become a Liverpool player a long time ago.

Chelsea ruined it for the Reds back in 2014, but it is likely to be the second-time the charm for the Reds this summer.

Liverpool saw their £28 million offer get rejected by AS Roma, but the Reds have returned for the Egyptian star with an improved bid worth £35 million. The latest reports claim that former Blues man has already agreed terms on a £90,000 a week and it is now up to the clubs to agree on a fee.

The potential arrival of Mohamed Salah has had a mixed reception with the Liverpool most faithful, who are excited over the prospect of a top-class star arriving to Anfield but at the same worried. Being an Egypt international, Mohamed Salah has Africa Cup of Nations obligations which have already cost Liverpool quite a bit this season with Sadio Mane.

Salah nevertheless remains an exciting prospect as a player who will fit perfectly into Liverpool’s style of play.

Liverpool do not need classic striker

It might be a bold claim to make, but Jurgen Klopp’s fluent Liverpool formation does not sustain a classic No. 9. Christian Benteke might be the best example, whereas we have plenty to learn from Jurgen Klopp’s Dortmund days as well.

What Liverpool actually need is a player capable of scoring 20-plus goals in a season, while performing a more advanced role in attack. And even though he is naturally a winger, Mohamed Salah might be the perfect solution Klopp is looking for.

A quick and mobile player, who is known for his impressive work-rate and tactical ability, Mohamed Salah boasts impressive technical skills and an eye for goal. AS Roma forward utilises his great pace on the ball to beat opponents and create scoring opportunities for himself and teammates, and he would definitely be a valuable asset for the current Liverpool side.

The total of 43 goals in 109 AS Roma appearances are a promising sign that Mohamed Salah would offer a significant alternative in Liverpool’s Champions League attack.

With Roberto Firmino and Divock Origi as two primary forward choices for next campaign, Liverpool would have an impressive attacking line consisting of Sadio Mane on one side of the pitch and Mo Salah on the other.

And with Virgil Van Dijk as a world-class addition to the shaky defence line, Liverpool are hoping this would be enough to mount a serious title challenge. Betting operators have them at early offer of 12/1 betting odds to lift the coveted and long-desired trophy.

Can Liverpool hope to emerge as Premier League title contenders?
