Liverpool winning race for Lallana

The Daily Star understands that Liverpool are winning the race to secure the services of Southampton midfielder Adam Lallana.

The Reds, whose title hopes were dealt a huge blow as they fell to their first league defeat of 2014 to rivals Chelsea on Sunday afternoon, are ready to offer the England international a deal worth £50,000-per-week.

Manchester United have also been linked with the 25 year old, who was yesterday named in the PFA Team of the Year along with fellow Saints man Luke Shaw.

Lallana has appeared in all of Southampton’s league games so far this season, scoring nine times to help guide the club to eighth place in the table, where they will almost certainly finish, especially if Newcastle United lose at Arsenal on Monday evening.

Mauricio Pochettino’s men travel to Swansea City on Saturday afternoon in the penultimate round of Premier League fixtures, and they can be backed at 15/8 for the victory.
