West Ham United have reportedly joined Crystal Palace in the race for Liverpool striker Christian Benteke this summer, and given the choice the Belgian international is likely to opt for the former in a bid to resurrect his career.

Benteke only signed for Liverpool last summer from Aston Villa, but has endured a troublesome debut campaign at Anfield. While scoring a respectable nine goal in 14 Premier League starts, overall performances left a lot to be desired.

At West Ham, Benteke would be the recipient of many balls coming into the box, meaning his core strengths – aerial presence and physicality – would be best utilised, rather than trying to fit into a high-pressing fast-paced attacking style at Liverpool.

While the Hammers do have a lot of attacking options in Andy Carroll, Enner Valencia and Diafra Sakho, Sakho’s future at the club is doubtful, while Carroll has long suffered with injuries keeping him out of action over the course of a season.

As a result, there might be a void for Benteke to fill and West Ham United have been very keen on bolstering their attack to push on for a Champions League place next season. West Ham are 2/1 with Bet 365 to sign Benteke this summer.
