Arsenal and Tottenham are set to go head to head in the battle to sign Ruben de la Red from Real Madrid this summer, according to The Daily Mail. According to the reports, the Spanish winger would be available for about £15 million.
Real Madrid sold de la Red to Getafe last year, but exercised their option to bring the player back this summer. Now they stand to make a clear profit from the midfielder who climbed through the ranks at Real Madrid.
The Daily Mail states that Arsenal, Tottenham and Aston Villa have asked Real Madrid about the availability of the player. It now remains to be seen whether either one of the three clubs would be willing to match the £15 million asking price.

Got something to say?

This “winger” is actually a central midfielder who, despite being a promising player, would really improve neither of these teams. Tottenham already has plenty of competition in the two central midfield berths and I for one would be disappointed to see promising players like Jamie O’Hara or Tom Huddlestone lose their places in the team. As for Arsenal, de la Red is a bit too big a liability to be considered a viable replacement for Gilberto Silva who still has football in him in any case. If Arsenal or Tottenham really want reinforcements in their midfield, what is wrong with Steve Sidwell who is available for a much cheaper prize?
