Luhukay not scared of Bayern test

Augsburg head coach Jos Luhukay says his side will respect Bayern Munich but not be overawed ahead of this weekend’s Bundesliga clash.

Bayern go into the weekend’s fixtures three points behind leaders Borussia Dortmund looking for a fifth straight league win, while 14th-placed Augsburg are unbeaten in six matches.

The promoted club had a terrible first half of the season but their recent form means they are now clear of the relegation zone by two points.

“We respect and give Bayern Munich credit because of the quality of their individual players and the whole team,” Luhukay said.

“But we will not change our strategy and our attack.

“We have confidence in ourselves.

“We want to show a positive attitude and try to achieve what is possible in 90 minutes.”

During their unbeaten run, Augsburg have drawn with champions Dortmund, while they also beat fourth-placed Borussia Moenchengladbach in December, showing they can match it with the best in the Bundesliga.

But Luhukay knows that no matter which players Bayern select on Saturday, it will be a big test for his team.

“Bayern Munich took a big step for German football when they reached the next round of the Champions League, especially in the first half they did a great job,” the Augsburg coach said.

“But probably they played in a different line-up than they are going to do on Saturday.

“I am not sure who will be part of the starting line-up? Mario Gomez, Arjen Robben and Bastian Schweinsteiger are the three examples who did not participate against Marseille.”
