Chelsea defender David Luiz will not feature in Wednesday’s Premier League clash with Reading after picking up a knee injury.
The Brazilian centre-back took to microblogging website Twitter to explain that he has been forced to pull out of the Blues’ second league game of the season.
“Good morning #geezers!” he wrote. “I’m a bit sad today, because I can’t play tonight, I have a pain (in) my knee.”
The 25-year-old had partnered John Terry in the centre of the west London outfit’s defence at the DW Stadium during their 2-0 win over Wigan on Sunday.
Gary Cahill is now likely to deputise at Stamford Bridge in his absence.
Former Benfica stopper Luiz is entering his second full season as a Chelsea player after arriving in January 2011 for 25 million euros.
