Lukaku aiming to prove Mourinho wrong

Romelu Lukaku intends to prove Jose Mourinho was wrong to loan him to Everton by scoring more than any of Chelsea’s strikers.

The striker moved to Goodison Park on transfer deadline day after Mourinho deemed him surplus to requirements at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea have Fernando Torres, Demba Ba and Samuel Eto’o as their striking options but the trio have yet to manage a league goal in the current campaign.

Lukaku, by contrast, has made a blistering start to his Everton career with four goals in three Premier League appearances.

Having scored 17 times for West Brom last season, he is eager to maintain his impressive form.

“The coach decides and as a player you have to respect that,” he told Belgian newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.

“I chose to leave and it’s up to me to prove the coach wrong.

“The only thing I can do is play well and score a lot. And then I think people will say that I’m a good player.

“I want to score more goals than the strikers of Chelsea.

“We will see at the end of the season who made the best choice.”
