Lukaku focused on West Brom

Romelu Lukaku says he is unconcerned at how parent club Chelsea are faring and has hinted at extending his loan spell with West Brom.

The young Belgian has impressed at the Hawthorns, with his two goals against Reading taking his tally to nine for the season from 20 appearances – already 12 more than he managed in the entire 2011/12 season at Chelsea.

Speaking to reporters after his side’s late collapse at the Madejski Stadium, Lukaku confirmed he was looking to stay at West Brom beyond the end of the campaign.

“Hopefully after the January window we will be able to start talking about that (staying at West Brom next season),” he said.

“At this time I’m just looking at my own career and West Brom, I don’t really care about what Chelsea are doing at the moment.”

In Lukaku’s absence Chelsea have seen Fernando Torres continue to struggle, with Daniel Sturridge sold to Liverpool, and Demba Ba recruited from Newcastle.

Lukaku hailed the positive atmosphere among the West Brom squad, who have been flying high this season under new manager Steve Clarke, a man Lukaku has cited as helping his adaptation to the Premier League.

“You have to be somewhere where you are connected with the people,” Lukaku said.

“You have to be in a good environment. Where I am now is similar to when I was in Anderlecht – nice people who want you to improve, where everyone is open to you.

“That’s why I have settled very well here. On the pitch, I want to win. People can be nice to you, but if you don’t perform on the pitch, you can fall very quickly.

“I went from two years playing regular football in the Europa League, Champions League, then one year I didn’t play (at Chelsea). So I know football can change very quickly.”
