Lyon full-back François Clerc has told the tale of how he made his comeback after knee surgery earlier than expected. Clerc managed 90 minutes against Lille in Week 27 and 45 minutes against Barcelona.

Clerc said: “Ten days ago I had an injection to my knee which stopped me training for two days. I was meant to make my comeback for the reserves against Saint-Etienne but then I was picked to face Lille.

“I had well and truly cooked my goose by the time it came to the last 20 minutes. Before the Barça game I told the coach I wouldn’t be able to last the full 90 minutes. I played because I wanted to help the team. If I only thought about myself and my career then I wouldn’t have played.”
