Ligue 1 giants Olympique Lyonnais have reportedly terminated their kit deal with England based sports apparel giant Umbro, while signing a new long term deal with Germany based sports apparel manufacturer Adidas.

The Lyon based giants, who have won the French Ligue 1 title seven times in the last eight years, had signed an extension to their Umbro contract in 2007, which would have seen the team play in the British manufacturer’s kits until 2013.

However, when Umbro was bought out by Nike, the club’s relationship with the brand is thought not to have changed significantly.

The new deal with Adidas will come into effect at the end of the coming season and will last upto ten years with estimation of it being worth around US$7 million annually for the Ligue 1 giants.

A statement on the club’s website concerning the financial details of the deal read, “Each season, Olympique Lyonnais will receive from Adidas a minimum payment comprising a lump sum plus royalties on sales of products bearing the Olympique Lyonnais and Adidas brands. This payment may be adjusted depending on sales performance and Olympique Lyonnais’ results in domestic and/or European competitions.”
