Lyon eyeing Mehdi Benatia

Lyon are weighing up summer bid for Juventus defender Mehdi Benatia, according to France Football.

Les Gones plan to reinforce their back line in the summer transfer window and they see the former Bayern Munich defender as a very good option.

The problem is that Juventus recently made Benatia’s stay in Turin permanent, paying €17 million for his services, although Lyon plan to use the Bianconeri’s interest in Corentin Tolisso to get their man.

The 30-year-old spent his early career in France, representing Marseille, Tours, Clermont and Lorient, but he has yet to make his first Ligue 1 appearance.

Benatia joined Juventus on loan with an option to buy last summer and he clearly did enough to earn a contract until June 2020.

The centre-back scored once in 15 Serie A outings last term, while making five appearances on the road to the Champions League final.
