Maggio: We can still win the title

Napoli winger Christian Maggio is confident the Serie A title is still within the second-placed side’s grasp.

Napoli host fifth-placed Udinese, who are fighting for a place in the Champions League, on Sunday.

Napoli are three points behind league leaders AC Milan, and Maggio believes there are signs that tip the title race in their favour.

“Sometimes I think about our ability to win the title – we’ve had some small signals, like winning against Lazio without giving up until the end, like Ibrahimovic being sent off,” he said.

He admitted the Azzurri, who have won their last four home games, will collect the title, should they claim maximum points in all of their remaining fixtures which contains clashes with Palermo, Inter and Juventus.

“As I said, we have to win every game, and hope that teams above us lose ground.”

“We’ve had small signs that make you think it could be our year.”

One of those signs could be that Udinese star Antonio Di Natale has been ruled out of the clash at the San Paolo with a foot injury.

The 33-year-old striker, who has scored 26 goals this season, suffered an ankle injury before last weekend’s match against Roma and lew to see a specialist in Barcelona on Friday for an expert opinion.

Mercurial Chilean winger Alexis Sanchez is also out for the Udine outfit.

But Maggio said the next few games will be imperative in determining their fate in their attempt to revive the glory days of Maradona two decades ago.

“As for me, I think it’s still too early, we have to wait at least 2-3 games to see if we can do it.”
