(GSM) – Maicon has downplayed rumours linking him to a move to Real Madrid by stating that he will not leave Internazionale unless president Massimo Moratti decides to sell him.

The defender, who had recently praised Real Madrid, acknowledged that the only club he would play for other than Inter is Real Madrid.

“I didn’t say I want to go to Real Madrid,” Maicon said.

“I said that if there would be another club I would like to go now, after winning these important titles with Inter, it would be Real Madrid, no other club.”

Maicon helped the Italian club win the Champions League, the Italian league and the Italian Cup this year.

He had said Real Madrid would be his choice because it’s a club with a similar structure to Inter’s. He also said it would be nice to rejoin Jose Mourinho, the former Inter coach who has moved to Real Madrid.

“Not a lot would change if I had to play for Real Madrid,” the 28-year-old Maicon said.
