Malouda: Mourinho is ‘history’

(GSM) – Florent Malouda has said that Jose Mourinho’s success at Chelsea is just history.

The French winger said the current squad, which was largely constructed by the Internazionale manager, do not care about the past.

Mourinho will return to Stamford Bridge for the second leg of the Champions League last-16 tie tomorrow. Inter lead 2-1 from the first leg.

Malouda, who made two goals and scored one in a 4-1 win over West Ham United on Saturday, said: “We are not thinking about the history. We’re trying to make history.

“What happened in the past, I would say, we don’t care. We’re just looking to win and go through tomorrow evening. I hope it will be a great result for Chelsea and for the manager.

“I would say that it’s more important for the fans than for us. We, as players for Chelsea, just want to beat Inter. As he’s the Inter coach, we want to beat him too. That’s the main thing.

“It’ll be an emotional game for him but, as for us, you could see in the first game it was not disturbing for the players he signed here for Chelsea. I just hope that Carlo (Ancelotti, the current Chelsea manager) will help me win my first Champions League.”

A 1-0 win would be enough to see Chelsea through to the quarter-finals. Malouda said the goal did not have to come early.

“I’m not really sure that we need an early goal,” he said. “We’ve scored the away goal so we need one to go through, and I think we must have patience.

“We won’t go and rush at them to score an early goal. We have to be clever in this game and score, I hope, more than one goal.”

Malouda played a defensive role in Italy because of injuries to left-backs Ashley Cole and Yury Zhirkov. But he will be on the wing tomorrow and he is hoping to continue his superb form.

“I was an emergency left-back in the first leg and, obviously, I’m back now to my normal position and I will play with the same confidence as I did on Saturday,” he said.

“It will be a difficult game. We expect a different game from Inter, and it’s just about learning from that first match to make sure we get through.”
