Man City-Swansea agree Bony fee; Wolves close to signing Afobe

Swansea City have reportedly agreed to sell star striker Wilfried Bony to Manchester City for a fee of £28 million.

Swansea City have reportedly agreed to sell star striker Wilfried Bony to Manchester City for a fee of £28 million.

The Côte d’Ivoire international, who joined the Swans from Dutch Eredivisie side Vitesse Arnhem for a club record fee of £12 million in the summer of 2013, scored an English Premier League best 20 goals in 2014.

Bony is currently on international duty with Côte d’Ivoire in Abu Dhabi in preparation for the Africa Cup of Nations, and is expected to undergo a medical within the next few days.

After Saturday’s 1-1 draw against West Ham United, Swansea manager Garry Monk said: “The situation is that I’d prepared for this period without Wilfried as he was going away anyway.

“Obviously I’m focused on what we’re doing and hopefully the Bony situation will get sorted either way sooner rather than later which is best for both parties.”

Bony’s exit leaves the Swans with just three striking options, including the likes of Bafétimbi Gomis, Marvin Emnes, and Nélson Oliveira, who joined the club on loan from Benfica last month, heading into the second half of the season.

Wolves close to signing Afobe

Wolverhampton Wanderers manager Kenny Jackett has confirmed the club’s interest in signing England Under-21 international Benik Afobe from Arsenal this month.

Afobe, who bagged a brace in Milton Keynes Dons’ 4-0 rout of Manchester United in the Capital One Cup earlier this term, has impressed while on loan in Buckinghamshire.

“He might be [coming in] and we will see how the weekend has gone,” Jackett told Sky Sports. “Over this weekend the medical should be completed.

“Like a lot of sides we want to be busy in January and, if we can, make key signings that are going to improve us.

“I don’t think we will be bringing in high volume but we do want players who are the right age that can improve us.”

Afobe has scored 19 goals in 30 appearances in all competitions for MK Dons this season.

Inter sign Shaqiri

FC Internazionale Milano have completed the signing of Switzerland international midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri from Bayern Munich for an undisclosed fee.

Shaqiri, who had been linked with a move to the Premier League amid reported interest from Liverpool and Manchester United, joins the Nerazzurri on a four-and-a-half year deal after struggling to hold a place into Pep Guardiola’s first-team.

“On behalf of everyone at the club, we would like to wish Shaqiri a very warm welcome. We would also like to thank FC Bayern Munich and the FIGC for their help in completing the deal positively and quickly,” read a statement on Inter’s official website.
