Man United desperate to keep hold of Herrera

Amidst rumours that contract negotiations between Manchester United and Ander Herrrera are stalling the club are reportedly planning to trigger a clause in the player’s contract that extends his current deal by 12 months, according to the Mirror.

The midfielder’s current contract expires in the summer and United want to make sure that the Spanish international does not walk away from the club for free at the end of the season. Contact negotiations have reportedly been going on for months with little success and now the clause in Herrera’s contract that adds 12 months to his deal will be activated in order to give both parties more time to reach an agreement.

The versatile Spaniard has been a hugely important player for Mourinho and has been utilised in a variety of roles to help Manchester United win the Europa League last season and begin challenging for the Premier League title in this campaign. Whether it is man-marking Eden Hazard out of a crucial game or playing holding midfielder to allow United’s other players to get forward Herrera is a vital player for the Manchester club and it is no surprise that they are so desperate to keep him around.
