Manchester City land Robinho

Manchester City’s new owners Abu Dhabi United have instantly won the club’s supporters over by completing the signing of Brazilian superstar Robinho.

The versatile attacker joins for a British record transfer fee of £32.5million from Real Madrid, having played 101 games and scoring 25 goals for the Bernabeu club.

The 24-year-old had been widely tipped to join Chelsea this summer, but makes the move to Manchester after a remarkable day of activity at Eastlands.

On the day of their takeover, Manchester City confirmed bids for a quartet of players on transfer deadline day. As well as Robinho, the club offered £30m for Tottenham’s Dimitar Berbatov and also made moves for Valencia’s David Villa and Stuttgart’s Mario Gomez.

Sky Sports News reported that Manchester City could have made bids for as many as six different players on the 1st September.
