Manchester City to drop Fred interest

The Mail Online understand that Manchester City will not be pursuing a deal to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Fred.

The Premier League leaders were linked with a move for the Brazil international in January though a deal could not be finalised.

They were set to reignite their interest in the summer but now are ready to turn their attention elsewhere with Borussia Dortmund’s Julian Weigl on their radar.

The Citizens are already looking to strengthen ahead of next season and deployed scouts to monitor the Germany international recently, with a bid ready to be tabled when the transfer window reopens.

Pep Guardiola’s side beat Stoke City 2-0 at the Bet 365 Stadium on Monday evening with David Silva grabbing both goals for the table toppers.

That result means that the title could be clinched against rivals Manchester United when they face off at the Etihad Stadium on April 7th.
