Manchester United confirm move for Matuidi

Manchester United wanted to bring Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Blaise Matuidi to Old Trafford, according to Phil Neville.

Speaking after the Chelsea v PSG Champions League clash where Matuidi assisted Cavani for the second-half goal, the former Red Devils coach admitted the English giants were interested in the Frenchman.

“We wanted to sign him. We were really interested,” Neville confessed to BBC Sport.

Matuidi was clearly one of the first names on David Moyes’ hit-list during his stay at Old Trafford, although it remains to be seen whether his successor Louis van Gaal will be following up on the interest.

The Dutch manager admitted that signing a quality midfielder was a priority, but he refused to disclose any names.

Blaise Matuidi, 27, has been an indispensable member of the PSG side ever since he joined from Saint Etienne, making 125 Ligue 1 appearances and scoring 11 goals.

His suitors Manchester United resume their Premier League campaign by facing Swansea at Liberty Stadium and they have been made 19/20 favourites to claim maximum points.
