Manchester United eyeing Italy defender

Manchester United are readying January bid for Torino full-back Matteo Darmian, according to Daily Mirror.

The Red Devils are in desperate need of a right-sided defender and manager Louis van Gaal sees the Italy international as a very good option, especially seeing as how he can successfully operate on the other side as well.

Manchester United are also targeting Barcelona star Dani Alves, but Darmian is obviously a much better long-term option.

The 24-year-old will not come on the cheap though, with Torino reportedly holding out for £15 million.

The Red Devils are also expected to face stiff competition for the player’s signature from Italy’s top clubs who are well aware of his qualities.

Having established himself as a starting defender for Italy, Darmian will feel the time has come to leave Torino and make a move to a top European club, and no doubts he will be tempted by the prospect of moving to Old Trafford.
