Manchester United ponder Hangeland swoop

The People suggests that Manchester United are readying January bid for Fulham defender Brede Hangeland.

The Red Devils are short of cover at the back with Nemanja Vidic, Chris Smalling and Phil Jones all sidelined through injury, and Sir Alex Ferguson is expected to sign another centre-back in the January transfer window.

The Scottish manager is hoping to sign a player who can slot right into the side, with a move for Fulham stopper Brede Hangeland being mentioned.

The Norwegian defender has entered the final year of his contract and Fulham boss Martin Jol recently admitted the player could leave Craven Cottage in the near future.

This basically means that Manchester United can sign the player at a cut-back price in January as a short-term solution for the defensive crisis.

The 31-year-old already has plenty of Premier League experience, having made 165 league appearances for the Cottagers.
