Mangala clueless on long-term Manchester City future

Eliaquim Mangala says he has yet to speak with Valencia or Manchester City about his long-term future.

The centre-back moved to Mestalla on a season-long loan last August and has been a consistent part of the first-choice defence despite the change in coaches.

Mangala has made 29 appearances in all competitions, 26 of which have been starts, with Pako Ayestaran, Cesare Prandelli and Voro all putting their faith in the France international.

The 26-year-old is unsure whether Valencia plan to offer him a permanent deal but says he is happy to put off talks about his future until the campaign has finished.

“We’ll see what happens at the end of the season. There are four games left and we’ll see what happens,” he told Marca.

Asked if Valencia chiefs had spoken to him, he said: “No, and I prefer it that way: to be calm and focused on the pitch and then see what happens.

“I don’t know [what I will do], I don’t think about next year. My plan is to think about what’s happening now and when the season finishes I’ll think about next year.”

Voro has twice taken charge of the first team this season following the departures of Ayestaran and Prandelli, during another turbulent season at Mestalla.

A run of three games without a win has left Valencia 12th in LaLiga, although they are at least certain to avoid a shock relegation.

Mangala believes this year has been an important learning curve in his career, such has been the extent of the changes.

“I had high expectations with Valencia,” he said. “Things have happened which are not new to what happened in other years. It’s the first time I’ve had three coaches in a year. There are a lot of changes.

“I’ve learned to be more focused on what happens on the pitch.”

Valencia take on leaders Real Madrid at Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday.
