(GSM) – Sevilla have sacked coach Antonio Álvarez after their disappointing start of the season.

Sevilla axed Álvarez after they lost against Hércules (2-0). They already appointed Gregorio Manzano as his successor at the Rámon Sánchez Pizjuan.

Álvarez only spent six months at the helm at the Andalusian side. He managed to win the Copa del Rey last year and finished fourth in La Liga. This year started dramatically when Sevilla were dumped out of the Champions League by Portuguese minnows Sporting Braga.

In La Liga, los Nervionenses only won two of their first five matches. This caused the club management to part company with Álvarez and appoint Manzano as the new coach. Manzano guided Mallorca to the fifth place last season before leaving the cash-strapped Balearic outfit by mutual agreement during the summer.

The 54-year-old will take control of his first training session with los Nervionenses on Monday evening.
