According to the majority of the visitors of the website of Marca, Spain’s biggest newspaper, Florentino Perez should immediately fire Manuel Pellegrini. The Real Madrid coach saw how his players were trounced by third divisionist Alcorcon (4-0) in Tuesday’s Copa del Rey encounter.
Marca launched a poll on its website to indicate their visitors’ opinion about Pellegrini’s position at Real. 52 per cent thinks Madrid chairman Perez should sack his manager while 48 per cent backs Pellegrini.
“I’m very ashamed, there is no explanation for this loss,” the Chilean coach said on the press conference after the match. “We were focussed and training was good, but Alcorcon have played very well.”
“There is little I can say. We must react and take our responsibillity to make sure we’ll perform better in the next match.”
Marca illustrated Tuesday’s humilliation with some interesting facts: the fourteen Real players that faced Alcorcon won 465 caps in total. Altogether they cost Real Madrid € 150,5 million.
To add to the misery, it’s reported Guti had an argument with Pellegrini about the midfielders substitution.
