Real Madrid ace Marcelo hailed team-mate Ruud Van Nistelrooy after the Dutchman’s performances so far this season.

Marcelo was sent off just after half time in the 2-1 away win over Real Betis last night.

Ruud Van Nistelrooy scored Real’s important winner just before full time.

Marcelo said: “Real Madrid are used to coming back from behind. We demonstrated that we are strong. When I was sent-off I tried to watch the match from the tunnel. We played a great match and my dismissal was the only negative news.

“Van Nistelrooy is incredible. He has scored seven goals. He gives us confidence looking ahead to our match in St. Petersburg.”

Real defender Pepe said after the match: “We controlled the match well and we managed to score in the final minute. That shows a lot of things. Everything turned out well and it shows that we are playing well and working hard together. That is important.

“Our football is improving. We are slowly finding our ryhthmn. It is only the fifth round. We are going to think about the game with Zenit in a relaxed manner. We have continued from where we left off last year, together, united. We have formed a great squad. I want to always play to help Real Madrid. If the coach lets me, I will always be here.”
