Marseille bid for Jeremy Mathieu

French giants Marseille have submitted an official proposal for Barcelona defender Jeremy Mathieu, according to AS.

It is no secret that the experienced footballer hopes to leave the Catalans in the summer transfer window and the club chiefs are unlikely to stand in his way as the 33-year-old has just another year left on his contract.

Meanwhile, Marseille are desperate to reinforce their shaky back line and they believe Mathieu still has several good years ahead of him.

L’OM sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has presented an official proposal for the defender to his former colleagues at Camp Nou and he is now awaiting response.

Despite operating as a left-back for a large chunk of his career, Mathieu now prefers playing in the heart of defence and he could prove a very good signing for Marseille if they manage to find an agreement with Barcelona.
