Marco Materazzi has cast serious doubt over whether Jose Mourinho would be able to work with Zlatan Ibrahimovic at Paris Saint-Germain.

Ibrahimovic left Inter Milan, then managed by Mourinho, in 2009 to join Barcelona and his former team-mate has spoken about the extent of the animosity that surrounded the departure.

“If Mourinho joins PSG, I don’t know what will become of Ibrahimovic,” Materazzi told Repubblica Sport when asked about rumours that the Portuguese coach could be enticed to the French capital.

“They did not leave each other on good terms. Ibra dumped us during a pre-season training camp in Los Angeles to join Barcelona.

“He told Cristian Chivu: ‘You won’t even win the Scudetto without me.’ Mourinho confronted him and said: ‘I want you to know that we’ll win everything without you.’ That was exactly what happened.”

Inter enjoyed an extremely successful season after the striker’s move, completing a Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League treble in 2009/10.

Materazzi goaded the striker over his unfortunate record of leaving clubs just prior to them enjoying European success.

“In fact, I now have a concern that Milan will win the Champions League,” the 39-year-old said.

“It already happened at Barcelona and Inter, as when Ibra leaves, that team then lifts the trophy.”
