Maxi Lopez linked with River Plate return

Turin-based media outlet Tuttosport understands that River Plate have launched an assault on Torino striker Maxi Lopez.

Having seen bitter rivals Boca Juniors lure some high-profile players back to La Bombonera, the Millionaires aim to follow their example and have now set their sights on the Granata star.

Namely, with Maxi Lopez’s contract due to expire at the end of the season, River Plate hope they can persuade the striker to return to Monumental either in January or next summer.

The 31-year-old is far from happy with Torino’s latest contract offer and having played across Europe over the last ten years, he may decide to return home and join River Plate.

Maxi Lopez scored 13 goals in 56 league outings during his first spell with the Argentine giants and the well-traveled striker has since represented Barcelona, Mallorca, FC Moscow, Gremio, Catania, AC Milan, Sampdoria, Chievo and Torino, netting 10 times in 28 appearances for Granata.
